This large mound coral about 10 ft diameter, Porites lutea, is in recovery mode. It is located northwest of Maumae beach south of Kawaihae Reef. The fish are 5″-6″ long for scale comparison.

Water temperature 84F-86F,9am-11am. Today survey of coral bleaching covered inside of Kawaihae Harbor and outside the break wall. Water temperature is average 85F. Temperature at 25ft was 84F recorded outside the breakwall. Cauliflower corals, Pocillopora meandrina appear to be 98%-100% affected through out. The water at the breakwall on both outside and inside the harbor has a green cast to it. The effect of the storm run offs may still have lingering affects. Coral bleaching can be seen from shore.
